School linking good practice - Ysgol Gynradd Trewen

Ysgol Gynradd Trewen, Newcastle Emlyn

I visited Trewen Primary School during their reciprocal visit of the Prinicpal of..........School Memathabelo and her husband from Mokhotlong, Lesotho. The link between their schools has been alive for 8 years with many visits back and fore and evidence of real, sustainable impact in both schools. Trewen truly embodies the spirit of Lesotho in the fabric of its buildings and grounds as well as the curriculum delivered to its pupils. They have built a Resource base in the playground referred to as the Sekolo, it is filled with information and artefacts from Lesotho.

Students as seen as "peer mentors" for their Basotho friends and send Literacy work to them to work from as learning resources. Topics are often linked to an element of Lesotho's geography or Basotho culture to further deepen the understanding of the Trewen students. Year 6 pupils have such a secure knowledge about their link country and school it is seen as an extension of their own. A true example of "school linking good practice",
